36th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Pulpit Exchange

Friday through Monday, January 13 – 16, 2023, Congregation Emanu-El and Third Baptist Church joined together once again for a weekend of worship, sermons, music, and the opportunity to connect.

With all the strife, division, racism and antisemitism of this time, we all need this weekend. So thank you for working together to create sacred space standing together clearly against hate directed at any and all minority groups.

MLK Commemoration Sunday Service

Emanu-El joins Third Baptist for Sunday services

10:00 am Service

We are so grateful to be back in person with Third Baptist Church and Emanu-El clergy on Sunday, January 15th! The MLK Pulpit Exchange is an integral part of our community partnership with Third Baptist Church, and we look forward to being a part of the Sunday Service each year.

Join us at the Church for an impactful morning service led by Rabbi Jonathan Singer with music by Cantor Marsha Attie and greetings from Congregation Emanu-El President Ellen Fleishhacker, followed by luncheon with our partners at Third Baptist. With those trying to pull all of us apart, this is a chance to show that we are standing together. We can't wait to see you there!

Emanu-El joins SF Unity Coalition for the MLK March

11:00 AM

This 1.5-mile march starts at SF's Caltrain Station (4th and King) and crosses over the Lefty O'Doul Bridge near Oracle Park. It then stops in the Willie Mays Plaza to commemorate the Edmunds Pettus Bridge crossing of the famous Selma-to-Montgomery, Alabama march, a symbol of violence and victory during the civil rights era.

After stopping for a few minutes, the march will continue north to the Yerba Buena Gardens. This is where you can enjoy several other events that will take place throughout the day.
